Massage can provide numerous positive benefits for your pet in all stages of life. As a massage practitioner for small animals (with a focus on dogs, cats and an occasional rabbit), Anne provides sessions in your home, making it comfortable for the animal and easy for you.

Massage is a noninvasive technique that works with the body’s natural energy and offers a gentle but effective way to keep each system operating at a high level of efficiency. The emotional benefits are also clearly evident. Many animals with emotional issues stemming from grief, abuse, or abandonment respond positively to the relaxation and healing touch of massage. Massage should be part of everyone's wellness routine! Massage includes a variety of techniques applied to the soft tissue which can help support the health and well-being of your companion animal.

As humans we are able to vocalize to our massage practitioners how we are feeling and where there might be tension and pain. While animals cannot vocalize this information, they do communicate it through changes in behavior and body language. It may be a physical change, as with a limp or difficulty lowering hindquarters into a seated position. Or it may be a metabolic change, indicated by a lack of appetite, or increased water consumption. Either physical or metabolic, the change may be a minor health issue or point to a more serious condition.

As your pet's guardian, you are more in tune with what is normal for your pet than you probably realize. Recognizing early warning signs and having them evaluated are both key to your pet's well-being.

ABOUT ANNE

While Anne has always had an intense love for animals, it was her landlord's dog, Banda, which spearheaded much of what she has come to embrace and love about animal massage. After Banda had Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) surgery in 2008 for a torn ligament, Anne realized two key things. One, she did not know how to properly care for Banda after her surgery and felt very uncomfortable about how to care for her. And two, Banda, while still in pain and recovering from her surgery, needed that proper assistance and care to heal properly. Those two things intensified Anne's focus to help ease the pain of post-operative rehabilitation for animals and the fear and discomfort that the animal's owners may feel. From there, the Therapeutic Paws Massage journey began.
